CAMP HISTORY

The Bridgewater Camp was formed in September of 2006. It is headquartered in Lincoln County and primarily draws its membership from Lincoln, Boyle, Garrard, Clay, Madison, Floyd and Rowan Counties as well as generally other points south and southeast of Nicholasville.

The Camp holds its meetings in Stanford with occasional gatherings in other locations. The Camp also mans a recruiting tent at numerous reenactments and living histories throughout the state. This gives an opportunity for our out of area Brothers to participate in Camp functions.

Marking the graves of Civil War veterans is a priority project of the Camp. We have already installed and dedicated a number of markers, including one for Bridgewater himself. This service was attended by the Major’s great-great grandson, who lives in Michigan.

Camp dues are $30 per year, plus a one-time $10 application fee the first year. Members receive the Banner, the quarterly publication of our National organization.

There is also a Sons of Veterans Reserve Company, named Bridgewater Scouts, which draws most of its membership from Camp 7. The SVR is the uniformed element of our Order. All Camp members are encouraged to join the SVR Company. Yearly renewal dues are $5. Each member receives a New Recruit Manual..

MONUMENT DEDICATION
Primarily through the efforts of Brother David Gambrel, MAJ Bridgewater’s grave was marked and a dedication held June 16, 2007. The exact location of his grave is not known, so the marker was placed next to his nephew. The children of one of his Scouts also rest in the cemetery and a soldier of the US Colored Troops is nearby.
